چکیده

Electrical models for microelectrode-cell interfaces are essential to match electrical simulations to real biosystems performance and correctly to decode the results obtained experimentally. The accurate response simulation of a microelectrode sensor to changes in the cell-electrode system, such as cell growth, enables the optimum microelectrode design process. We report the use of COMSOL quasi-static mode, contrary to other DC modes frequently used, including magnetic fields to calculate the bioimpedance of the system. A fully electrode-cell model has been built, and the effect of fibroblasts of different diameters on the simulated impedance of small microelectrodes (32-μm square) has been studied, in order to validate the model and to characterize the microelectrode sensor response to changes in cell size and density.

Design and Simulation of a Fluidic Micro-Bio-Sensor Based on Resonator Array

In this paper, a fluidic biosensor with possibility to fabricate by Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) technology is proposed for biomedical mass detection and lab-on-chip applications. This is designed by electromechanical coupling of harmonic micromechanical resonators with harmonic springers as a mechanical resonator array. It can disperse mechanical wave along the array by electrostati...

Cell Biometrics Based on Bio-Impedance Measurements

Many biological parameters and processes can be sensed and monitored using their impedance as marker (Grimmes, 2008), (Beach. 2005), (Yúfera, 2005), (Radke, 2004), with the advantage that it is a non-invasive, relatively cheap technique. Cell growth, cell activity, changes in cell composition, shapes or cell location are only some examples of processes which can be detected by microelectrode-ce...

Phase Angle Measurement in Healthy Human Subjects through Bio-Impedance Analysis

Objective(s)Bioelectrical impedance is the measure of impedance of the body. Impedance consists of electric resistance and reactance. Phase angle (PA) is the tan value of the ratio of reactance versus electric resistance. PA depends on cell membrane integrity and on body cell mass. There exists a correlation between PA values and body cell mass. The objective of this study was to compare the PA ...

Modified Impedance-Based OOS Protection Based on On-Line Thévenin Equivalent Estimation

In this paper, a novel approach based on the Thévenin tracing is presented to modified conventional impedance-based out-of-step (OOS) protection. In conventional approach, the OOS detection is done by measuring positive sequence impedance. However, the measured impedance may be change due to different factors such as capacitor bank switching and reactive power compensators that it can cause the...

A planar micro-sensor for bio-impedance measurements

The outermost layer of the human skin, the stratum corneum (SC), is comprised of structurally inter-positioned anatomical regions. This inter-positioning renders the electrical characterization of its individual region difficult. To address this difficulty, the SC’s electrical properties at the cellular level were investigated. Impedance measurements were performed using a planar microelectrode...
